| I really wish I hadn't... |

I feel a bit silly doing this, but the fact is, even after 10 years, I'm still horribly ashamed of this. During my senior year at school, one of the assignments we got at Dutch language was presenting a statement. We were allowed to chose anything, as long as we could find arguments defending our statement.
I chose the following:
"The Dutch people did everything they could to help the Jews during the second World War"
Why did I do this? I don't know, I didn't even believe it myself. I presented the statement, and pretty much blacked out the minute after I said it. It's not in the same league as "The Holocaust never happened", but it's far from the truth. Even know, everytime I see war time documentaries, I cringe at the memory of what I said.
Because, the Dutch people did very little to help the Jews during the occupation. A lot of the things we did actually helped the Nazis. The resistance we did put up was mostly symbolic, and only if we were sure we didn't risk our own safety.
Maybe I'm a product of my education, because when I first learned of the second World War, it was still in the time were teachers told the kids that most Dutch resisted the Nazis, and the few ones that didn't were just a couple of collaborators. Then again, when I made that statement, I was 18 and really should have known better.
I'm sorry.

Whoops, a little late again - sorry! At least it's still Thursday somewhere in the US!
Today's word is one of my favourites, because it lets you insult people whilst, at worst, them not knowing what you're saying and, at best, them thinking it's a compliment!
Mendicant [men-di-kant] adjective or noun
Definition Adj., Begging, the characteristics of a beggar. Noun., Beggar.
Etymology From Latin mendīcare, to beg, from mendīcus, needy, beggar, from mendum, physical defect.
Usage Larry and Frank had been friends for years, both living homeless, but still managing to survive nonetheless. Today, Frank was a bit down and started to talk about giving up and just ending it all by getting himself cleaned up, some nice clothes and getting a job. Larry would have none of that, though! Shaking Frank firmly by the shoulders he shouted "Enough, Frank! That's loser talk! Are you a mendican or a mendicant!?"

I had a meeting today with a school where I'm going to be teaching tommorow. Group 6 (4th grade), 13 kids. And one very energetic, but helpfull, teacher. Honestly, I couldn't get a word in. Not even my name, she just started explaining what I'll be doing tommorow. Already had everything laid out.
I've been working yesterday to, which means no workshop (woho!). Group 8 it was. Lovely group, and they liked it to, because: "You don't shout as much as our regular teacher." It was a good day.
I watched De Wereld Draait Door this evening, and excuse me while I proof myself to be a citizen of a small country, but We* Got Mentioned On The Colbert Report!!
You have to wait about 2 and a half minute, but there it is: a clip of Goedemorgen Nederland:
*Whenever something awesome happens regarding your country, it is common to claim it for yourself, by the use of the word "we"

philander [fil-AN-der]
verb (used without object) -(of a man) to make love with a woman one cannot or will not marry; carry on flirtations.
-To carry on a sexual affair, especially an extramarital affair, with a woman one cannot or does not intend to marry. Used of a man.
-To engage in many love affairs, especially with a frivolous or casual attitude. Used of a man.
Origin: 1675–85; < Gk phílandros one who loves (of a woman, loving her husband); see philo-, andro-; later used in fiction as a proper name for a lover, and appar. mistaken as “a man who loves”
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/philander
While this may have been an exaggeration on her part, my sister currently living in France once told me that she believed she knew no French man who did not philander.
My apologies to any French people here; this is just a sentence with no factual basis.
